St Thomas' Thurstonland

Thurstonland serves the two villages of Thurstonland and Stocksmoor. It is located on the furthest boundary of Holme Valley Team Ministry, reaching down into the ancient parish of Kirkburton. St Thomas’ is a community church we share the care of our community with Thurstonland Infant and Junior School, the Cricket Club, the local pub ‘Rose and Crown’ and Thurstonland & Stocksmoor Village Associations. The aim of our work is to share the life of Christ in our local community. We are an incarnational community and achieve our aims through providing opportunities for worship, spiritual direction prayer and growth, and through involving ourselves in village life supporting village events in the church building and beyond.

Our Pattern of Services usually runs smoothly over the course of each month.

  • 1st Sunday in the month 10 am All Age Worship
  • 2nd Sunday 9.30 am Holy Communion
  • 3rd Sunday 9.30 am Family Communion
  • 4th Sunday 9.30 am Sung Eucharist
  • 5th Sunday 10 am Sung Eucharist

Children’s Church is lead by a group of parents with young children and is supported by other members of the congregation; it meets in church on 3rd & 4th Sundays.

Lay people are involved in all the services welcoming people into church, leading the music, prayers of intercession, reading scripture, distributing the sacraments in church and providing refreshments after the service. The church wants new people included in leading these activities.

There is an excellent Parish Magazine which has a wide readership in both villages and is available on request at the church or via the editor: Mrs B Lightowler 01484 605526
